Bastian Schweinsteiger has endured a poor year at Manchester United but could be in line for a sensational return to Bayern Munich.
Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has hinted at a possible return for Bastian Schweinsteiger.
The 32-year-old has been culled from Jose Mourinho's 25-man Manchester United squad and is training with the Reserves as he contemplates a future away from Old Trafford.
Schweinsteiger spent 17 years at Bayern, where he won eight Bundesliga titles and theChampions League , and Rummenigge is open to re-signing the Germany great.
"Should he [Schweinsteiger] speak in the future at some point about a desire to return then we will discuss it with him," he is quoted as saying by Bild.
Schweinsteiger's former Bayern and Germany teammate, Philipp Lahm, is still club captain at the Allianz Arena and endorsed a potential homecoming for his friend.
"It is important to involve deserving players," Lahm added. "A man like him was predestined to work with the club, he knows everything and everyone."
