Managing Director @ UBA retires



Captains of industry and prominent Nigerians came together on Wednesday to honour the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the United Bank for Africa, Mr. Phillips Oduoza, with the launch of a book.
According to a statement by the bank’s Head, Media Relations, Abiodun Coker, the book titled, ‘Dynamics of the Nigerian financial system,’ a compilation of essays edited by Professor Michael Ogbeide, was launched to coincide with Oduoza’s retirement as the UBA boss.
The Chairman of Best Foods Limited, Mr. Emmanuel Ijewere, who was also the chairman on the occasion,  described Oduoza as deserving of celebration because “he has proven himself to be a worthy  banker, an authority in the banking industry, and an administrator who has traversed the banking and financial landscape without blemish. A special brand dedicated to excel”.
Similarly, the Chairman, UBA, Mr. Tony Elumelu, commended Oduoza for sustaining the growth of the bank over the six years he that was in charge.
A former CEO of Diamond Bank Plc., Alex Otti, praised Oduoza for his “extraordinary talent and management skills and leaving the banking industry with his integrity intact.”
The editor of the book, Professor Mike Ogbeide of the University of Lagos, added that the book was a worthy testimony of Oduoza’s  contributions to an industry “whose zenith he reached by scoring many firsts.”
Oduoza’s wife, Jumai, was said to have put together the book launch in honour of her husband’s over two decades in the African banking industry.
Oduoza, who has been the GMD/CEO, UBA since August 2010, officially retires from the bank on 31 July (today), having completed two terms of three years each. He will be succeeded by Kennedy Uzoka, who has been the Deputy Managing Director in the last six years.
